We recently asked our staff members some questions so that you could get to know them a bit better.

Meet Tegan Couch!

Q: What is your job title at McKinnish Law Group?

A: Social Security Paralegal

Q: What does your job entail?

A: Assisting with the Social Security files, keeping clients apprised of the progress of their claims, filing appeals, assisting with hearing preparation.  I also assist with legal research for the associate attorneys.

Q: Why did you become a paralegal?

A: I became a paralegal by chance.  While I was completing an undergraduate degree in accounting, I landed a part-time job as a runner and file clerk at a law firm near campus.  I instantly loved the legal profession.  I changed majors and began working my way up to a paralegal position.  After working nearly 14 years in that position, I decided to apply for law school and am now completing my final year at LMU Law.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I like helping people.  Our clients are often having a hard time in dealing with the reality that they may not be capable of working.  All of the long days are worth it when you’re helping someone through a difficult time and assisting them in securing benefits so that they can continue to support their household.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: I have two very active daughters who play multiple sports.  When I’m not at work you are likely to find our family at the gym cheering on our Lady Eagles.

Q: What do you like most about East Tennessee?

A: Our family moved from Southeast Kentucky to East Tennessee when I began law school in August of 2015.  We were delighted to find that East Tennesseans were very welcoming and kind to us.  The scenery is beautiful, without any doubt, but the best part of East Tennessee is the people.
